About

Rong Ma obtained her Ph.D. in communication from the University of Maryland in 2019. Prior to Butler, she has taught Oral Communication, Intercultural Communication, Communication Theory, and Research Methods. She is teaching Public Speaking (COM 101) and Communication Research Methods (ORG 356) at Butler. 

Dr. Ma's research focuses on the social identity issues underlying communication. She has investigated how race, gender, fandom, and other social identities affect the way people perceive and communicate with others. Her work has been published in top communication journals such as the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships and Mass Communication & Society.
