Abstract

Mvmts. 3 and 4 from HEARTLAND (2007) For the great heartland states of Illinois and Wisconsin, ILLINOISE and BADGER BABY are movement 3 and 4 of the 7 movements of HEARTLAND (which was commissioned and premiered by the Manhattan Contemporary Chamber Ensemble at Symphony Space in NYC in March 2008). ILLINOISE is noisy tour de force solo for the sax player (playing TWO tenor saxes simultaneously while reciting the Gettysburg address) ... and BADGER BABY is a lullaby for solo piano (the pianist falls asleep at the end of the mvmt, collapsing onto the keyboard)
